Presentation by Professor Sara Walton who teaches and researches in the area of sustainability, climate change, and business at the University of Otago. Climate change is no longer a future risk, rather it is a present disruption reshaping the conditions under which business operates. This talk examines the intersection of climate action, business and systemic change, drawing on tipping points and socio-technical transitions frameworks to explore how economies transform. Using evidence from corporate climate reports, this talk considers the action that businesses are taking in Aotearoa New Zealand and asks whether businesses are leading change, merely signalling it, or actually standing in its way?
